The appointment of five judicial officers as additional judges of the Gujarat Hogh Court have been cleared by the Central government on Wednesday.
The judicial officers who have been appointed are:
- Susan Valentine Pinto;
- Hasmukhbhai Dalsukhbhai Suthar;
- Jitendra Champaklal Doshi;
- Mangesh Rameshchandra Mengdey; and
- Divyeshkumar Amrutlal Joshi.
The Law Minister Kiren Rijiju has posted a tweet about this in the twitter.
The appointment was made after the Supreme Court Collegium recommended the same on March 2, 2023.
The Supreme Court Collegium passed the resolution stating that the Gujarat High Court Collegium comprising of the then Chief Justice and two senior-most Judges unanimously made the recommendation on September 26, 2022.
The resolution mentions that the Chief Minister and the Governor of the State of Gujarat had also concurred with the recommendations.
As on March 1, 2023, the Gujarat High Court is functioning with 24 judges against the working strength of 52, a vacancy position of 28.
