Supreme Court Collegium recommends appointment of 5 judicial officers and 2 advocates as judges of Gujarat High Court

The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the appointment of five judicial officers and two advocates as judges of Gujarat High Court. 

The names of the judicial officers who have recommended for elevation are 

  • Susan Valentine Pinto
  • Hasmukhbhai Dalsukhbhai Suthar
  • Jitendra Champaklal Doshi
  • Mangesh Rameshchandra Mengdey
  • Divyeshkumar Amrutlal Joshi

The recommended advocates are:

  • Devan Mahendrabhai Desai 
  • Moxa Kiran Thakker

The recommendations for the elevation were made on 26 September 2022 by the Gujarat High Court Collegium comprising of the then Chief Justice and two senior-most Judges unanimously.

It is important to note that the Chief Minister and the Governor of the State of Gujarat have also concurred with the recommendation.

The recommend notification said that for the purpose of proposing recommendation of the candidates,the merit and suitability of the candidates for elevation to the High Court was considered.

The court had also scrutinized and evaluated the material that was  placed on record, including the inputs that were  furnished by the Intelligence Bureau. 

The court also had perused the observations that were made by the Department of Justice in the file.
