The Bar Council of Delhi (BCD) has constituted a special committee for drafting a comprehensive Advocates Protection Act.The committee shall also ensure that Delhi Government enacts it as well.
The former BCD Chairman Advocate KC Mittal will be heading the committee.
The Special Committee (Advocate Protection Act) will comprise of
1.DK Sharma, Chairman, Executive Committee BCD;
2.Sanjay Rathi, Secretary BCD;
3.Ajayinder Sangwan, Co-Chairman BCD and;
4.Ajay Sondhi, Co-Chairman BCD.
The constitution of this body was a decision was taken after advocate Virender Narwal was shot dead in broad daylight in Dwarka.
After the Advicate was shot dead ,the lawyers from Delhi have not been working and have been demanding a speedy probe in the incident.
BCD in a press release said that the decision was taken on Thursday considering the fact that advocates were being attacked within and outside the court premises.
The Bar Council of Delhi said that all the members of the Bar Council on realising the ground realities and the situation, were in favour of bringing Advocates Protection Act for advocates practicing in Delhi and NCR, enrolled with Bar Council of Delhi, on urgent basis.
The press release issued by the BCD said that with this purpose in mind,the Council unanimously constituted a Special Committee to draft a comprehensive Advocates Protection Act, to ensure that the same is enacted by the Government of NCT of Delhi.
