The Bar associations across Delhi have decided to continue their protest and would not work till April 9.The bar associations have been demanding speedy investigation into the death of Advocate Virender Narwal.
It is after the shooting of Advocate Narwal that the associations had decided to suspend work on Monday but now all the officer bearers of the bar associations have decided to continue their protest till April 9.
The Secretary General North Delhi Lawyers Association Vineet Jindal told media that extension of the protest was decided by the Coordination Committee of the All District Bar Associations of Delhi.
Jindal said that lawyers are facing death threats every day. Despite repeated requests, police have refused to lend any protection to us.
He added that the purpose of the protest is to speed up the investigation into the brutal murder of Advocate Narwal. We are also demanding that the government bring in the Advocates Protection Act.
Narwal (51) was shot dead on April 1 by two bike-borne assailants in Dwarka. He practised in the Dwarka court.
According to a report in The Times of India, police suspect the case to be of personal enmity. However, the investigating agency is yet to make any arrest.
Notably, Narwal was provided security cover after an attack on him in 2017. However, it was withdrawn in 2021.
